May's Hotdog Lunch and Movie

After one month off, the monthly hot dog lunch and movie will resume on Wednesday, May 6th at 12:00 noon.  This monthly gathering features the best hotdogs in town, chips, and beverage!  And the best part about it is free!  (If you would like to contribute something to the cost of the meal, you may.)  If you would like dessert, please bring something to share.

After the lunch, there is a movie on the large screen complete with popcorn!  The movie is chosen from what is available that day, and 99.44% of the time has been a great movie.  The other .56% has been okay.  But, the food and fellowship are always great!

Come join us on the 6th!

Salt Shakers Goes to Daytona Ale House

Daytona Ale House (2610 W. International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach) will host the May meeting of Salt Shakers.  The group will gather at the Ale House on Wednesday, May 20th at 11:30 AM for food and fellowship.

More than twelve people gathered at Captain Daddy’s in Port Orange in April for the Salt Shaker Lunch¾some for the first time.  Salt Shakers is a mixture of couples and singles, women and men that gather monthly in a different restaurant for food and fellowship.  Those attending vary from month-to-month depending on their schedule.

There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex to indicate you will attend.  Plan to come and enjoy the experience with other members and friends of UPC.  AND, help plan where the group will go in July!

Linda and Holmes Davis' Grandson is Special Guest Preacher on May 17th

Luke Davis was baptized at Southminster Presbyterian Church and returns to be our guest preacher on Sunday, May 17th.  Luke will move in the near future to serve God in the Seattle, WA area.  We want to have Luke come to United before he moves west.  Rev. Anderson and Luke’s grandmother will be liturgists that Sunday.  Ann and Lloyd Davis and Linda and Holmes Davis are the proud parents and grandparents.  Below is an introduction to Luke that is taken from the website of the school to which Luke will go as Headmaster.

Luke Davis (Headmaster for the 2015-16 School Year)

Luke received his BA in English from the University of North Florida in 2005. Three years later he earned an MA in Biblical Studies from Reformed Theological Seminary.  Luke has eight years of experience in classical Christian education serving as a teacher, initially, and later as the first Secondary School principal for ACCS-accredited Riverbend Academy.  He is married to Lynn and they have three sons.  The oldest two will be attending SCCS in 2015-2016.  Luke and Lynn are filled with excitement as they prepare to make the move to Seattle from Florida.

Please join the people of his new school to pray for them as they search for a local church, find a place to lay their heads and settle down in this beautiful new place they’ll call "home".

UPC Book Club

Joy Bible Study

Spring was certainly fleeting this year except for the spring blossoms and the pollen. Hot weather is here to stay for a few months. Our thoughts are moving to vacation time.

Some of our ladies from the Joy Bible Group took a trip to the Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise on March 30th. Part of our altrustic project for the year went to support this wonderful organization. The facility houses homeless children from very young to high school years.

Our last lesson for the year will on Tuesday, May 19th. We will be studyingh, "A Call to Apostleship in the Twenty-First Century".  Laura Steckler will lead the lesson and Marilyn Rich and Linda Davis will be hostesses.
