New Bible Study

THE WIRED WORD ADULT BIBLE CLASS will continue to meet on Sunday at 9:00 AM in the Disciples Room beginning Sunday, September 13, 2015.   Volunteers will be facilitating the class each Sunday until Larry returns in November.  We hope that you will continue to attend the Wired Word as this Bible study incorporates the current headlines in today’s news with a Bible lesson.  Please also think about volunteering to head a class during Larry’s absence.  It’s a wonderful and rewarding ministry.  Please contact Bill Hendrickson if you can volunteer to facilitate a class.  We especially need volunteers for October Bible classes.

The UPC Book Club’s next selection is Go Set a Watchman, by Harper Lee.  This book was actually the prequel to “To Kill a Mocking Bird”.  In actuality, it can also be considered a sequel since it revisits many of the same characters who appeared in “To Kill a Mocking Bird twenty years later.  The Book Club will meet on September 12, 2015, at 12:30 PM.  The location will be Jacob’s Well, located at 132 N. Beach Street.  Please feel free to read the other suggested books:   Liar, Temptress, Spy; I Am Pilgrim; and All the Light We Cannot See, as we will possibly be discussing some of those books in the near future.  (Liar, Temptress,   Spy will actually be our October selection.)

Our Women’s Bible Study will resume on September 8, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  Remember to bring a sandwich, quartered, and $15.00 for the study book.  If you are interested in learning how to study the Bible with our hearts and minds, this book is for you.  The study guide entitled Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin.  Jen tells about her own journey to become biblically literate.  If you do not feel you know how to study the Bible on your own, this study should help.  I am looking forward to the study.  Come and join us.

SALT SHAKERS will meet on Wednesday, September 16th at 11:30AM at Tomoka "Grill" Brewing Company, 4647 So. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Port Orange.  Salt Shakersis a group of women and men, singles and couples that eat at various area restaurants each month.  Those that attend change from one month to the next depending on who is in town and what their availability is.  So, if you haven’t been to the Salt Shakers’ monthly get-together, feel free to jump right in.  You are most welcome and wanted to come.  We hope to see you there

There’s still time to register for United Presbyterian Church’s 5th annual group cruise the week of February 20 - 27, 2016.  Aboard the Carnival Ship, Valor, we will sail from Port Canaveral to four Central American ports.

Join us for new sights and sounds, relaxation and pampering, and for our special times of group fellowship and worship.  You and friends or families are most welcome to share this adventure.  What a fine mid-winter break this could be for those in the North!

Carnival Cruise Lines gives a charitable contribution of $50.00 per cabin to UPC, which we pass along to local Missions.  It is hoped the 2016 cruise donation will grow and benefit The Presbyterian Counseling Center and Halifax Urban Ministries well.

Please note:  Registrations and deposits are due by September 16th.

More information is available on the table in the narthex or from the church office (386-253-2324).
